VIDEO BRANCHOSCOPY PROCEDURE
Preparation:
The patient may be given a sedative or local anesthetic to help with comfort.
A numbing agent may be applied to the nose or throat to ease the passage of the bronchoscope.
Insertion of the Bronchoscope:
The bronchoscope, a flexible tube with a light source and camera, is introduced through the nose or mouth.
The patient is asked to breathe slowly and deeply to facilitate the passage of the bronchoscope through the airways.
Sample Collection (Biopsy):
If abnormal areas are identified, small tissue samples (biopsies) may be collected using specialized tools passed through the bronchoscope.
Other procedures, such as bronchoalveolar lavage or brushing, may also be performed to collect samples for analysis.
Treatment or Intervention:
In some cases, therapeutic interventions can be performed during the bronchoscopy. For example, removing a foreign object or clearing a blockage.
Post- Procedure:
Patients may experience a sore throat or cough for a short period after the procedure.
Results from the collected samples are sent to a pathology laboratory for analysis.
